TechMatrix Research Centre (TechMatrix) is the first IT think tank dedicated to technology development and innovative culture in Hong Kong. It is formed by people from technology, industrial, business and academic sectors of Hong Kong. They share a common vision of revitalizing Hong Kong through a commitment to technology as the central driver of growth.
Its former body, the Coalition for Defending the Status of Technology, formed in May 2007, has been dedicated to urging the government to restore the good name of "Technology", and formulating long-term technology strategies.
Since then, the organization has taken many substantial actions at different levels. It has published jointly signed manifestos in several major newspapers protesting the government's decision in removing the name of "Technology Bureau". It organized the petition by over 100 people from the technology sector in front of the Legislative Council, and delivered the petition letters to the government officials and also the Legislative Councilors. Seminars are frequently held to collect variety of views and opinions. Moreover, many articles have been published in various major newspapers expressing views on major social economic issues and promoting the ideology of technology innovation. All these have aroused extensive attention from various sectors of society.
The core members of the TechMatrix consider that it is necessary to set up and register the think tank as an NGO, so that strategies for HK's technology development and workable proactive proposals would be formulated.
